Update: Transforming the Yarra is now available on the iPhone App Store!
WSP Environment & Energy is actively involved in advancing the role of good design and eco-innovation, as part of this year’s State of Design Victoria Festival.
We are proud to be the developer partner for the Transforming the Yarra iPhone Application, produced as part of this years State of Design Victoria Festival. WSP Digital has worked closely with the SoD team and others to create a unique iPhone App which acknowledges the urban planning foresight demonstrated by David Yencken and Evan Walker.
Presented by Major Projects Victoria, Department of Innovation Industry and Regional Development, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Federation Square, City of Melbourne and the Office of the Victorian Government Architect, Transforming the Yarra is an audio guided walking tour along Melbourne’s Yarra river.
“An audio walking tour taking listeners on a historic exploration of the Yarra River Corridor’s redevelopment. The tour focuses on the visionary urban planning of David Yencken & Evan Walker. Testimonies from the people involved and leading academics provide a rich explanation of how Melbourne turned its focus back towards the Yarra River.”

The iPhone application allows users to interactively take the tour, integrating into the phone’s mapping and GPS capabilities to guide the user through different audio chapters on location. Alternatively users can manually guide themselves through the audio, image and textual content of each chapter.

The Transforming the Yarra application is intended to be launched, both as part of the Festival launch and on the Apple AppStore by July 14th 2010.
WSP Environment & Energy has been involved with judging the Premier’s Design Awards, as well as specific State of Design workshops and seminars focussed on design, sustainability and business. A seminar presented by Design Victoria, featuring WSP Sustainability Associate John Gertsakis, will discuss ‘Green Growth Markets‘ on Thursday 15th July at the Royal Exhibition Buildings.
